Other ways of using PowerPoint – Producing video

PowerPoint is, of course, a presentations program and that’s what it should be used for. There are things it should never be used for and one of those is to produce print-ready artwork for flyers or brochures, for example.

But there is one thing that PowerPoint is surprisingly good at and that is producing clear and high-quality video. I use it all the time. If I need to add a presentation to my blog or anywhere on my website, it is first exported from PowerPoint to video and then uploaded to YouTube and linked from there.

There are better, more professional and more feature-rich tools designed especially for the job such as Adobe After Effects but PowerPoint is more than capable of producing excellent HD video sequences easily.

Using PowerPoint’s animations and transitions will bring movement to the video and they can be set to run for specific times to ensure that the video fits in with any voice over or music you want to add later.
